LOVE YOUR PARISH and want to MAKE A DIFFERENCE then please become a PARISH COUNCILLOR.

A Parish Council is a local authority that makes decisions on behalf of the people in the parish.  It is the level of local government closest to the community, with the district authority (Horsham District Council) and the county authority (West Sussex County Council) above it in the hierarchy.

Horsham District Council we will be holding scheduled elections for Parish Council seats on Thursday 2 May 2019

Who may stand for Election and hold Office?

         Someone who is a qualifying Commonwealth or EU citizen

         Someone over the age of 18 on the day of the election

         On that day and thereafter continues to be a local government elector for the area, or

         Has during the whole of the preceding 12 months occupied, as owner or tenant any land or premises in the area, or

         Has as principal or only place of work during the 12 months been in that area, or

         Has during the 12 months resided in that area or in the case of an existing councillor, resided in the parish or within 3 miles of its boundary

  Nominations

 ·         Every seat on every Parish Council is up for election, including both those filled at the 2015 elections and any filled at a by-election or co-opted to the council since then.

·         There is no automatic carry-forward of councillors. Anyone wishing to stand for re-election in 2019 must submit their nomination paperwork.

·         Election timetables are statutory.  Nominations must be delivered between 10am and 4pm, Monday to Friday between 26 March and 3 April, and must be brought in by hand.

 Uncontested and Contested elections

·         If the number of candidates is the same or less than the number of available seats, the election will be uncontested. All those who submitted valid nominations will be declared as having won the seat.

·         If the election is contested, details will be provided by HDC through the formal notices.

 Polling day

·         Polling day is Thursday 2 May 2019

·         All polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm
